If you’ve never seen a hurling match before, you have been missing out on the ancient and exciting warrior sport that the Gaels of Ireland have been playing for over THREE THOUSAND YEARS!!! Hurling is still one of the two national sports of Ireland, and the National Championships are bigger to them than the Super Bowl is to us. Many modern stick games derive from hurling; check out this video about hurling, known as “the fastest game on grass” for more info about how it is played!
The two HRHC Pub League teams for Spring 2014 are the IRISH WOLFHOUNDS (green shirts, captained by Ryan Norman) and the BRIAN BORUS (blue shirts, captained by Edward Brash). Come out to cheer both teams on and watch what promises to be a very exciting match!
Afterwards, the IAS is invited to join the lads and lasses of the HRHC at THE PUB (FORMERLY known as Park Lane Tavern) in Peninsula Town Center, Hampton, for lunch and camaraderie. Feel free to participate in “Buy a Hurler a Pint” and have a chat with him/her about this iconic IRISH sport! 🙂
