We are starting the new year off right with a “wine & cheese” soiree & a special program!
Edward Brash will be presenting 19 CRIMES: A MUSICAL HISTORY OF THE IRISH IN AUSTRALIA, a song & history program he created for us about the Irish being transported to the penal colony of Australia in the 18th & 19th centuries. This program was inspired by the Australian wine company 19 Crimes; visit their website for more info ( www.19crimes.com ). The local grocery stores are carrying it now.
We ask that people bring a bottle of wine OR some nice cheese OR some crackers for eating the cheese OR something else for the cheese board (hard sausages, fancy mustard, fig jam, honey, grapes, olives, crusty bread, etc.) to share with everyone else. If you want to bring specifically Irish cheeses, Whole Foods Market (locations in Virginia Beach and Newport News) carries some lovely Irish & Irish farmhouse style cheeses, as does The Cheese Shop in Merchants Square, Colonial Williamsburg. And there’s always Kerrygold cheese – you can find Dubliner cheddar at most local grocery stores!
We will also have several nice raffle items at the January meeting, compliments of Debra Taylor-Kelly, Peggy Margaret Anthony, and Eileen Ryan Seeley! All are welcome -- bring a friend!
